How to use the marks calculator

You only need the marks you obtained and the total marks for each subject. Your total, percentage and pass or fail result appear on the right as you type.

  1. Set the passing percentage

The default is 40%. Change it to match your board or university, for example 33% or 50%.

  2. Enter your subjects

Type the subject name, then the marks you obtained and the total marks, for example 78 out of 100.

  3. Add more subjects

Use "+ Add subject" if you need more rows, or × to remove one. Subjects can have different total marks.

  4. Read your result

See your total marks, percentage, average, best and weakest subject, and whether you passed. Use "Reset" to start again.

How total marks and percentage are calculated

Add up the marks you obtained in all subjects, add up the total marks of all subjects, then divide and multiply by 100.

Percentage = (Total marks obtained ÷ Total marks) × 100

Example: English 78/100, Mathematics 85/100, Physics 66/75, Chemistry 72/75, Urdu 70/100. Obtained = 371, total = 450. 371 ÷ 450 × 100 = 82.44%. Average per subject = 371 ÷ 5 = 74.2 marks.

Tip: you pass only if your overall percentage and every subject are at or above the passing percentage you set. If a subject is below it, the calculator names that subject for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my total marks?

Add the marks you obtained in every subject. Then add the total marks of every subject. The calculator shows both numbers, for example 371 out of 450.

How do I find my percentage from marks?

Divide your total obtained marks by the total marks and multiply by 100. The calculator does this for you and updates the result as you type.

Can subjects have different total marks?

Yes. One subject can be out of 100 and another out of 75 or 50. The calculator adds all the obtained marks and all the total marks, so every mark counts fairly.

What passing percentage should I use?

It depends on your board or university. Many use 33%, 40% or 50%. Check your institution's rules and type the correct value in the passing percentage box.

Why does it say Fail when my overall percentage looks fine?

The calculator also checks each subject. If any single subject is below the passing percentage, the result shows Fail and names the subject. Lower the passing percentage if your institution only checks the overall total.

Does this calculator save my information?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere. When you refresh or close the page, your entries are cleared.
