How CGPA is calculated

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the average of all your semesters, where a semester with more credit hours counts for more.

CGPA = Sum of (semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ Total credits

Example: Semester 1 GPA 3.2 (15 credits) = 48 points, Semester 2 GPA 3.5 (16 credits) = 56 points, Semester 3 GPA 3.8 (18 credits) = 68.4 points. Total = 172.4 points ÷ 49 credits = 3.52 CGPA.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA shows your result for a single semester. CGPA combines all your semesters into one overall score, so it reflects your performance across the whole degree so far.

How do I calculate my CGPA?

Multiply each semester's GPA by its credit hours, add the results, and divide by the total credit hours of all semesters. The calculator above does this for you automatically.

What if I do not know my credit hours?

Leave all the credit hour boxes empty and the calculator will take a simple average of your semester GPAs. This is accurate only if every semester had about the same number of credits. If you fill in some credit boxes, fill in all of them.

Which grading scale should I choose?

Choose the scale your university uses for GPA. Many universities use 4.0, some use 5.0, and many Indian institutions use 10.0. Your CGPA must be on the same scale as the semester GPAs you enter.

How can I find the GPA I need to reach my target CGPA?

Enter at least one semester with credit hours, then fill in your target CGPA and your next semester's credits in the "What GPA do I need next?" box. The calculator shows the GPA you must score, or tells you if the target is not reachable in one semester.
